More InformationSolar PV
When sunlight shines on to solar PV panels - fitted to roofs and sometimes to walls - an electric field is created. This is then converted into AC electricity, the configuration that runs through national grid, which can be used to power household appliances, office technology and lighting. The system links to a distribution board which gives preference to energy from the PV panels but will automatically use electricity from the national grid when necessary, at night for instance.
